Slow and Steady

Over a year ago I joined the Great Hexagon Quilt - Along with hopes of creating my own Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. The group consists of hundreds of quilters united by a desire to make projects out of hexagons.

Armed with a wonderful hexagon tutorial from Karen at Sew Many Ways, I began my journey by cutting and organizing my fabrics into a system that would be easy to manage.

The great thing about hexagon projects is that since they are totally sewn by hand, the blocks can easily be taken with you.

This is the progress I have made in the past year. (Sigh) I'm not totally sure the size of quilt I will make from these blocks, but at the rate I'm going...it could take me a long, long time to finish.

If you are looking for a reason to set aside some time to complete your unfinished projects, Heidi and Bobbi are hosting a "Sew-in" on Friday, February 19th. The rules to join are simple and the door is open for everyone no matter your skill level. So mark your calendar and get your supplies together. It sounds like a fun evening of online fellowship.

  2. Hi Sandra,
Your flowers are beautiful...I love the fabrics. I started mine so long ago and haven't worked on it in a while. You've just inspired me to get it out again. Maybe I should do some on the Sew In. Thanks for the link to my blog too, I really appreciate it.
    Take care,

  3. Kathie, I found the tin at my local JoAnn Fabrics store. It was designed by Frans and Porter and was intended to be a sewing kit. I love the slim design of the tin, and can fit inside all the petals needed to complete one "flower", a small spool of thread, and a pair of scissors. It is the perfect hand project to carry in my purse and comes in so handy when I need to wait different places.
